Qualifications

Bulverde Spring Branch EMS requires that all applicants be certified with the Department of State Health Services prior to gaining employment. This is achieved through the successful completion of a formal training program and subsequently passing the registration examinations. Applicants who do not have these qualifications cannot be considered for employment by the Bulverde Spring Branch EMS Department.

Bulverde Spring Branch EMS sets very high standards in its recruiting. Most successful applicants have prior experience with another service. Additional qualifications include but are not limited to:

- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Drivers license with no more than 2 demerits
- Security clearance
- Because of the nature of this position, candidates must be in good physical condition and able to provide proof of adequate antibody titers for the following diseases: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Tuberculosis skin test.
- Additional post secondary education and national registry certification is an asset but not required.

Our selection process has several stages:
|

- Application/Resume review: This is to determine who has the minimum qualifications detailed on the employment posting.
- Pre-employment testing: At this stage we invite potential candidates to complete a credentialing process which includes a scenario and written exam. The scenario content is varied but life-like, as we use real standardized patients. The written exam is based upon our Clinical Operating Guidelines and is administered for ECA, EMT Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic applicants.
- Targeted Selection Interview: This is an interview with a panel of 3 people using the Targeted selection format. It is a good idea to be familiar with the Targeted Selection process. A description is available online.
- Reference Check: Reference checks will be completed from the list you provide as well as from previous employers.
- Employment Offer: An offer with probationary on-call employment with Bulverde Spring Branch EMS will be made.
